Tired at 3 PM? Don’t Blame Your Age

You hit 3 PM and the wall shows up like clockwork. Coffee, sugar, another coffee — sound familiar? Most men my age assume this is just what 40 feels like. I don’t buy it, and neither should you.

Your energy doesn’t come from willpower. It comes from tiny power plants inside your cells called mitochondria. When they run well, you feel lit up. When they don’t, you drag. Two simple things wake them up, and neither is a supplement.

First: light. Get your eyes and skin into morning sunlight within an hour of waking — ten minutes, no sunglasses. This is the practical side of quantum biology: your cells literally respond to light. Morning light sets your internal clock, sharpens your afternoon energy, and helps you sleep that night. It’s free, and it’s the most underrated performance tool I know.

Second: what’s on your plate. That 3 PM crash is often a blood-sugar rollercoaster you set in motion at breakfast. Trade the bagel-and-juice combo for protein, healthy fat, and real food. Diet beats pills every time — you can’t supplement your way out of a breakfast that spikes and crashes you. Build the meal, and the crash disappears.

Then do a two-minute reset when the dip hits: stand up, get outside, breathe slow. You’re flipping your nervous system out of stress mode and back into focus.

Small steps. Light in the morning, protein on the plate, a breath of fresh air in the afternoon. Be your own scientist — run it for a week and watch what happens. Seems simple enough, right?
